In 1885, a young man named Louis Brandt founded Omega at Le Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

Brandt traveled throughout Europe selling his watches, but it was his sons Louis-Paul and Cesar who put Omega Watches on the map. Their Gurzelen and Labrador watches were the first series-produced calibers in the world. By 1894, the company had produced 240,000 watches with more 800 employees, ensuring no one who pedaled watches for Omega would have to do so by foot throughout the streets of Europe.

Today, Omega produces some of the finest watches on the market and the company has achieved several ground-breaking achievements. One such achievement occurred in 1965 when the Omega Speedmaster was flight-qualified by NASA. Not only are Omega watches favored by NASA, Omega Watches also are the official timekeeper of the Olympics, professional athletes and even Bond, James Bond.

Omega Moon Watch

The Omega Moon Watch, also known as the Speedmaster made history when it was NASA-qualified for space missions. It then recorded history at 2:56 GMT on July 21, 1969, when Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. Since then, it has had the notoriety of being the only watch ever worn into space. It is the official watch of all Russian cosmonauts.

The Omega Speedmaster is available in a variety of other models for both ladies and gentlemen. The gentlemen's GMT is constructed of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a stainless steel dial with the option of a leather or stainless steel bracelet. Most of the watches are water-resistant up to 157 feet. The ladies' Speedmaster Reduced has a sleek and slender leather (or stainless steel) strap and a diamond-encrusted dial. It is waterproof up to 100 feet.

Omega Seamaster

First master of sky and moon, now the Omega watch becomes mater of the sea with its aptly titled Seamaster. The Gentlemen's Collection contains a wide variety of watches. The Seamaster Planet Ocean is water resistant down to 2,000 feet, has a domed anti-reflective dial and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and co-axial escapement (a pioneering watch complication developed by Omega with George Daniels capable of reducing friction, thereby ensuring an accurate time). There also is the Aqua Terra Chronometer which has all these features, excluding the depth of water resistance, which is only 500 feet.

Ladies also have the option of mastering the sea with their choices of the Aqua Terra Quartz, the 300M Quartz and the Aqua Terra Automatic. Both the Aqua Terra Quartz and the 300M Quartz have quartz-precision movement and a power reserve of 20 months. They are each water-resistant down to 1,000 feet. The Aqua Terra Automatic has self-winding movements and a 42-hour power reserve.

Omega Pilot Watch

The Omega Pilot Watch, also known as Flightmaster, was the last watch to be engineered and geared toward those in aviation. The series was popular in 1969 (with the Omega Moon Watch) and throughout the 1970s. Today, its predecessor is the Omega Speedmaster, a titanium pilot watch with domed, anti-reflective scratch-resistant glass that has quartz precision movement and water-resistance down to 100 feet. The Omega Pilot Watch bracelet also is available in Kevlar, so consumers know it is built tough.

James Bond Omega Watch

What can possibly be cooler than the new James Bond sporting a pistol and an elegant Omega Watch? Not much. James Bond's Omega Watch is the Seamaster 300M Chronometer with a stainless steel and an icy blue dial matching the cold, piercing stare of his eyes. It has Co-Axial Escapement movement, self-winding chronometer, rhodium-plated finish and a water-resistant depth of 1,000 feet. With the powerful but elegant features of this watch, there is no doubt why this is the watch of choice for James Bond.

Omega Vintage Watches

For deep-pocketed Omega Watch enthusiasts, there are some great Internet sites selling Omega vintage watches. One such site is Omega-Fanatic.com which sells the vintage watches, but also displays some from the site master’s extensive private collection. The dates of these vintage watches range from the 1950s through the 1970s and contain older and discontinued versions like the Omega Megaquartz and a few from the Seamaster collection.

For vintage Omega Pocket Watches, try Ebay.com, where one is bound to find an Omega fanatic selling a pocket watch.

Replica Omega Watches

Omega replica watches intricately duplicate the aesthetics and beauty of some of the world's finest watches. So what if you are not a pilot, astronaut, deep-sea diver or James Bond? With Omega replica watches, you do not have to be to own a beautiful replica Omega watch. While just about every replica will contain variations within each model (like the Seamaster or Constellation), only the high-end Omega replica watches actually use genuine Swiss ETA movements.

Poorly-replicated Omega watches are marked by poor craftsmanship and second-rate materials, so look out for those qualities. Well-made replica Omega watches match the weight, size, markings and movements of a genuine Omega watch. Also keep in mind, although you may now have the preferred watch of James Bond, the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and deep water-resistance will be absent from even the highest-quality replica Omega watches.
