How to differentiate between authentic and replica Chanel items:
1. Pay attention to where the item is being sold. Chanel does not authorize its items to be sold in boutiques or shops; they can only be found at authorized retailers. Department stores found on the regional or national level are good places to shop for authentic Chanel items because they will not sell any designer replicas.
There is a reason why designer goods cost so much and are only available in limited stores; designer goods are not only meant to maintain their reputation for selling high-quality products, they also are intended to be available in limited locations to avoid becoming common.
2. Check for authenticity. Even if one is provided, do not automatically assume it is legitimate. Avoid sellers who give the authenticity code 9395451. This is the number for all Chanel replicas.
3. Check the hardware. Chanel handbag zippers and other hardware included on various styles should bear the company’s logo in thick lettering (at least one millimeter in height.)
4. Do not be fooled by visible serial numbers. Interestingly enough, serial numbers often are placed in regions of greater visibility in replicas than the authentic versions.
5. Look at the price tag. Chanel price tags are all white with black lettering. When an item is purchased, it is removed so you can pay for the purchase while the item is conveniently wrapped. Therefore, if the item still has the price tag it is probably stolen or a replica. Or, if it is black (or any other color), it is fake.
6. Do not assume any Chanel product lacks authenticity stamps. Even the majority of its jewelry lines, with the exception of the tiny earrings, will have these stamps. Authentic jewelry, if purchased new, should come with the small coordinating tag (containing has a sticker with letters and numbers on the back.)
7. Keep in mind what type of product is being sold. Chanel only sells items other than clothing, shoes and accessories in limited quantities. Therefore, items such as sports equipment and towels are difficult to find and, therefore, will likely have fewer replicas.
8. Do not be fooled by a good price. Authentic products (such as handbags) often cost thousands of dollars, so it would not make sense for an authentic Chanel handbag to be sold for less than half of its retail price.
9. Compare products. Check Chanel’s Web site or look at their authentic products in person, if possible.
