Casio watches are one of the most popular brands of electronic watches.
The company, which originally manufactured calculators, later took its expertise in electronics and applied it to watches after the electronic watch revolution. Although Casio has expanded to cameras, computers and printers, it still is one of the leading innovators of electronic watches.
One of the most popular series of Casio watches is the G-Shock.
Released in 1983, the G-Shock was the first shock-resistant watch. Up until then, watches were worn as pieces of jewelry and, most specialty, watches were designed for the military. The G-Shock was the first tough and sturdy watch capable of being worn while playing sports or engaging in outdoor recreational activities. In 1994, Casio released the Baby G-Shock, a shock-resistant watch designed for women.
Today, the G-Shock is Casio's signature watch and has expanded into a series including a variety of models. All G-Shock Casio watches are extremely tough, with durable watch bands geared towards sports enthusiasts. They are available in a variety of colors and sporty styles.
The G-Shock was the first watch to feature the Casio Illuminator, which is a special feature included on almost all Casio watches. The Casio Illuminator is an electro luminescent backlight emitting a blue-green light to light up the face of Casio watches. This allows a visible display under any light conditions.
One of the special feature watches to branch off from the G-Shock is the Casio Pathfinder. The Casio Pathfinder is an electronic watch equipped with multiple tools to be used outdoors. Features include compass, thermometer, altimeter and barometer. Casio Pathfinder watches even include a marine gear series with such tools as a tide graph, depth graph and diving log.
The Casio Atomic watch is included in the Casio Pathfinder series. This is a solar-powered watch containing a tiny solar panel that functions as a battery. The watch works in low light and can store a charge for two years. The name Atomic derives from a time calibration device which receives information transmitted from an atomic transmitter located in Fort Collins, Colo. Information, such as time and date, can be transmitted at a range of 2,800 miles from Fort Collins.
Another popular Casio watch is the Casio GPS. Released in 1999, the Casio GPS includes an advanced feature allowing the person wearing the watch to calculate directions and distances in relation to his or her location. This watch is popular for outdoor activities, such as mountain climbing and fishing.
Casio watches are the best brand for quality electronic watches. Casio watches are perfect for athletes and people who enjoy outdoor activities and sports. Casio watches also are quite affordable, with prices ranging between $50 and $500. Prices usually depend on the type of features available on the watch. Casio watches can be purchase in most outdoor or sporting good stores and online.
